Palpation of distal tendon
- Patient position
- Sitting or supine
- Place a hand distally on the lower arm's anterior aspect
- Ask the patient to make a fist
- Ask the patient to maintain the pressure of the fist
- Give resistance towards extension of the patient's wrist so that the patient is giving force towards flexion
- Palpate the tendon between the palmaris longus and flexor carpi ulnaris tendons at the anterior surface of the wrist
Strength test
- Patient position
- Sitting or supine
- Ask the patient to hold the wrist in a neutral position with the PIP-joints in a flexed position
- Give resistance in the direction of extension at the middle phalanx on the palmar side of the fingers so that the patient is giving force towards flexion
