  • Lateral part is superficial

Origin

  • Flexor retinaculum
  • Os hamatum

Insertion

  • 5. metacarpal
    • Ulnar side

  • Little finger CMC
    • Opposition

  • Lillefinger CMC
    • Flexion
    • Adduction
    • Lateral rotation

Nerve innervation

  • Segmental
    • C8-Th1
  • Peripheral
    • Ulnar nerve

Arterial supply

  • Ulnar artery

Palpation

  • Patient position
    • Sitting or supine
  • Place your fingers laterally on the hypothenarf
  • Ask the patient to perform opposition of the little fingers CMC-joint while you feel for the contraction in the muscle

Strength test

  • Patient position
    • Sitting or supine
  • Ask the patient to hold the little finger in a position of opposition
  • Give resistance towards the palmar surface of the 5.metacarpal
    • Do it in a direction which takes aim to flaten the cavity of the palm
