Position

  • Distal part is superficial
  • Proximal part is deep to tibialis anterior and peroneus longus

Origin

  • Lateral condylus of tibia
  • Anterior surface of corupus fibula, proximal 3/4
  • Membrana interosseus, proximal 1/3
  • The deep fascia of the leg

Insertion

  • Dorsal surface of the middle and distal 2.-5. phalanges via the digital expansion

Main function

  • MTP 2.-5. phalanges
    • Extension
  • IP 2.-5. phalanges
    • Extension
  • Ankle:
    • Dorsiflexion
    • Evertion

Nerve innervation

  • Segmental
    • L5-S1
  • Peripheral:
    • Deep fibular nerve

Arterial supply

  • Anterior tibial artery
