  • Distal tendon and a small part of distal 1/2 of muscle belly is superficial

Origin

  • Middle 2/4 of the anterior part of the fibula
  • Middle 2/4 of the interosseus membrana

Insertion

  • Dorsal surface of distal phalanx of the big toe

  • Big toe MTP joint
    • Extension
  • Big toe IP joint
    • Extension

Secondary function

  • Foot
    • Inversion
  • Ankle
    • Dorsiflexion

Nerve innervation

  • Segmental
    • L5-S1
  • Peripheral
    • Deep part of the peroneal nerve

  • Anterior branch of tibial artery
