Position

  • Superficial

Origin

  • Nasal part of frontal bone
  • Frontal process of maxilla
  • Anterior surface of medial palpebral ligament
  • The lacrimal bone

Insertion

  • Muscle fibers that encircles the eye
  • The lateral palpebral ligament
  • Medial palpebral raphe

Main function

  • Closes and squints the eye

Secondary function

  • Upper eyelid
    • Depression
  • Lower eyelid
    • Elevation
  • Assists in tear transport and drainage
