Pictures of the line
Consists of the following muscles and connective tissues
- Scalp fascia
- Sternocleidomastoideus
- Sternalis/sternochondral fascia
- Rectus abdominis
- Quadriceps
- Subpatellar tendon
- Tibialis anterior, extensor digitorum longus, extensor hallucis longus
- Anterior crural compartment
Attaches to the following bones
- Processus mastoideus
- Manubrium sternum
- 5th rib
- Tuberositas pubis
- Spina iliaca anterior inferior
- Patella
- Tuberositas tibiae
- Dorsal surface of the phalanges of the toes
Function of line
- To balance the Dorsal Line
- To maintain tensile support of the structures in front of the gravity line
- To facilitate movement of the body in an anterior direction
- To maintain the postural extension of knee
- To protect the viscera of the frontal cavity
Compensation patterns associated with the line
- Postural flexion of the trunk
- Forward head position
- Hyperextension of knees
Additional information
- The Rectus abdominis also links fascially into the pectoralis major and minor, connecting the Superficial Front Line to the Deep Ventral Arm Line, and Superficial Ventral Arm Line
- Shortening of the line causes the ribs to be restricted in their movement, thereby negatively influencing the breathing pattern.
