Localization
- At angulus superior scapula
Indications
- Pain at the upper part of the scapula on the affected side
- Movements of the neck, shoulder girdle or arm may be painful
- Sitting working in static typically ‘office-work’ positions for prolonged periods of time may be problematic
- Keeping head in a flexed position over time may generate discomfort
- Stretches the muscle, making it worked from a weakened position
Examination
- Resisted elevation of shoulder – painful
- Some neck movement may be painful
- Flexion of head
- Lateral flexion of head away from affected side
- Resisted lateral flexion of head towards painful side
- Palpation of tendon at angulus superior of the scapula indicates the location
