Teres minor lesion

Contents

Definition

  • The teres minor is a lateral rotator of the shoulder, but usually when this is positive in testing this indicates pathology of the infraspinatus
    • If adduction is also painful the suspicion is directed towards the teres minor since the infraspinatus does not perform adduction

Occurrence

  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy of the shoulder affects more than 80% of people over eighty years of age

Examination

  • Resisted lateral rotation - painful
  • Resisted adduction - painful
  • Slow active de-elevation – painful
    • Indicates rotator cuff pathology1
