Definition
- The teres minor is a lateral rotator of the shoulder, but usually when this is positive in testing this indicates pathology of the infraspinatus
- If adduction is also painful the suspicion is directed towards the teres minor since the infraspinatus does not perform adduction
Occurrence
- Rotator cuff tendinopathy of the shoulder affects more than 80% of people over eighty years of age
Examination
- Resisted lateral rotation - painful
- Resisted adduction - painful
- Slow active de-elevation – painful
- Indicates rotator cuff pathology1
